The Substance Use Family Navigator works to support families with loved ones who are using substances through one-to-one coaching, Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) groups, educational sessions, resources/referrals to community or clinical supports, and other activities within their scope and expertise.

The Family Navigator is a key member of the Behavioral Health team and plays a crucial role in supporting recovery and stability for youth, young adults, and their families.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly

Starting Salary: $27.00 

Salary Range:  This position is represented by a Union.  Annual increases occur each year, with the current cap at 8 years or $36.95. 

Reports To: Clinical Manager of Substance Use Services

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Clinical Services Tasks

  1. The Family Navigator provides services to families and assists them with navigating the behavioral health system, regardless of the participation or engagement of their loved one in treatment or care.

  2. When applicable, services may be offered separately to the family’s loved one (i.e., client, patient) if participation would be mutually beneficial for both parties.

  3. Utilize the evidence-based CRAFT and Family Training curriculum.

  4. The Family Navigator will provide, at a minimum, two CRAFT groups per week.

  5. Administer substance use assessments and provide individual and group counseling sessions in accordance with ASAM levels of care, as needed.

  6. Diagnose substance use conditions in accordance with the most recently published Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), as needed.

  7. Conduct urinary drug screenings to monitor client progress and inform treatment planning, as needed.

Administrative Tasks

  1. Attend a virtual monthly CRAFT Facilitator Consultation session.

  2. Administer surveys at monthly intervals to program participants.

  3. Attend weekly or bi-weekly individual meetings with the Clinical Manager to review cases.

  4. Participate in employee case consultations and division meetings.

  5. Maintain awareness of the divisions within the agency and its internal resources.

  6. Maintain case records in an accurate and timely manner per all WAC, COA, Medicaid, and King County requirements.

  7. Collaborate with internal and external providers to support families navigating the behavioral health system.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

a. Education and Experience

  1. Associate degree in a human services field.

  2. Licensed with the State of Washington as a Substance Use Disorder Professional or Trainee.

  3. Fifty hours of SUDPT hours completed, preferred.

  4. Trained in CRAFT.

  5. Demonstrated knowledge of MS365 Power Platform.

b. Additional Requirements

  1. Must satisfactorily pass a criminal history check and complete a WATCH background check.

  2. Must satisfactorily pass a tuberculosis (TB) test.

  3. Must have reliable transportation and a valid Washington State driver’s license (or be able to obtain one by the date of employment).

  4. Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles on Friends of Youth business must have a safe driving record as defined by Friends of Youth.

  5. Employees and volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s) on Friends of Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that complies with the requirements of Friends of Youth.

  6. Must successfully complete the following health certification requirements within 30 days of employment: CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens.

  9. Ability to learn and implement relevant Council on Accreditation (COA) standards and participate in Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) processes.

  10. Proficient skill set with Microsoft Office programs.
